The City of Vallejo is home to 38 parks and facilities comprising 377 acres of park land.
The City of Vallejo is home to the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD). This authority manages and operates 38 parks and facilities comprising 377 acres of park land, including community and neighborhood parks, open space and linear parks, group picnic areas, hiking trails, an aquatics complex, and four community centers.
Community and Neighborhood Parks
GVRD operates 5 community parks and 24 neighborhood parks located throughout Vallejo. Two of the largest parks, Blue Rock Springs and Dan Foley Park, are exceptional facilities that attract visitors from all over Northern California. Blue Rock Springs, Dan Foley Park and Hanns Park are available for group reservations. Picnic areas can accommodate between 50 and 300 people.
Children’s Wonderland Park
Children’s Wonderland is open to the public 6 days a week (closed on Tuesdays and Easter Sunday) for all generations. Enter through the castle guarded by crocodiles to this whimsical park with a restored teapot, fire truck and Cinderella’s carriage along with new playgrounds, a sand-surrounded dinosaur and much more.
The park is open October through the end of March, 11:00 am to 4:30 p.m., and April 1 through September 30, 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 pm.
Skate/BMX Park
Located in Wardlaw Park, Vallejo’s 17,000 square foot skate park features a large concrete bowl specially designed to incorporate the suggestions and ideas of local youth. The park is open daily from 9 a.m. to Sunset.
Dog Park
Vallejo’s 2.2 acre off-leash dog park, located in Wardlaw Park, includes two separately fenced areas: a small one for elderly and shy dogs, and a larger fenced area for active dogs. Dog owners will find shared watering/ washing facilities, multiple picnic areas, a restroom, and a footbridge to the Blue Rock Springs Corridor.
Community Centers
GVRD operates four community centers in Vallejo available for rent to the public as meeting rooms for activities, special events and private parties:
Foley Cultural Center
Foley Cultural Center is the largest community center in Vallejo. The facility boasts a beautiful view of Lake Chabot and sits amidst Dan Foley Park. Six meeting rooms can accommodate groups from 15 to 500 people.
Vallejo Community Center
Vallejo Community Center is conveniently located in central Vallejo and has been extensively refurbished. The center has a large auditorium with a full stage and a capacity of 400 people. The center’s foyer has a cozy fireplace and a capacity of 125.
North Vallejo Community Center
North Vallejo Community Center adjoins a beautiful park with open grass fields, a children’s playground, and a ball field. The center has both a small meeting room and larger banquet room with a capacity of 100 people.
Norman C. King South Vallejo Community Center
Norman C. King South Vallejo Community Center has four meeting rooms that can accommodate 25 to 192 people.
Cunningham Pool
GVRD operates a year-round swimming and aquatics center at Cunningham Pool. The Olympic-size pool is available for party rentals and the center has on-site dressing rooms and showers. Ongoing aquatic programs include adult and children’s swim lessons, aqua exercise and lap swimming, as well as lifeguard and safety courses.
Sports & Activities
GVRD offers year-round adult and youth sports and activities. Sports include spring and summer softball, fall and winter basketball, flag football and volleyball leagues. Activities include martial arts, dance classes, health and fitness, and arts & crafts.
Boating
Located at the Vallejo Marina, the Vallejo Yacht Club has been a landmark in Vallejo and for the yachtsmen of San Francisco Bay since the turn of the century. With a beautiful clubhouse and scenic harbor, the Yacht Club maintains a full schedule of cruising, racing and social events throughout the year including the Annual Vallejo Race, one of the oldest and largest inland sailing races on the West Coast.
